Unlike his two elder brothers he was saved by the vigilance of servants
Chlodovald was raised by his grandmother Queen Clotilda, widow of Clovis I
But his uncles insisted he be shorn as a priest, to render him ineligible for the throne
He was venerated as St Cloud (Sept 7)
