Petronilla ceded Aragon to her son Alfonso II (1164), the government being continued by a council of regents in his name
In her will Queen Petronilla forbade that any other woman should hold the crown in her own right

Buried within the Church of the Holy Cross and Santa Eulalia at Barcelona
